Spear Corps expands veteran, civilian outreach

August 22, 2026 | BK NEWS SERVICE

Aizawl, Aug 21: Reinforcing its commitment to veteran welfare and community service, medical teams under the Spear Corps conducted outreach initiatives in Mizoram and Nagaland, providing healthcare and assistance to ex-servicemen, their families and local residents.
In Aizawl, the Red Shield Division organised an Ex-Servicemen Outreach Programme aimed at addressing the healthcare needs of veterans and their families. Medical teams provided consultations and diagnostic support, enabling beneficiaries to access essential medical services closer to their communities.
The programme was also attended by Mizoram Governor General (Dr) V.K. Singh, PVSM, AVSM, YSM (Retd), whose presence highlighted the importance attached to the welfare of the armed forces’ veteran community.
The initiative provided an opportunity for ex-servicemen and their families to interact with Army representatives and seek assistance on healthcare-related concerns. Such outreach programmes are aimed at ensuring that veterans remain connected with the institution they served even after completing their military careers.
Meanwhile, in Nagaland, Assam Rifles conducted a medical camp at Longzang, extending healthcare and relief support to villagers affected by a fire. Medical personnel attended to local residents and provided necessary assistance to affected families.
The camp demonstrated the force’s continued engagement with communities living in remote and difficult-to-reach areas. By responding to immediate humanitarian needs, the initiative also strengthened trust and cooperation between security forces and local residents.
Together, the two initiatives reflected the broader humanitarian and welfare-oriented role undertaken by formations of the Spear Corps in the Northeast. While the Aizawl programme focused on veteran welfare, the Longzang camp addressed the immediate needs of fire-affected civilians.
Such initiatives underline the importance of sustained military-civil cooperation, particularly in remote regions where access to specialised healthcare and emergency assistance can be challenging.
The outreach programmes reaffirmed the commitment of the security forces to the welfare of those who served the nation as well as communities living alongside them, strengthening the enduring bond between the military and civilians.
