Srinagar, Sep 21: The Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) has intensified its enforcement drive against illegal and non-compliant constructions across the city, carrying out 50 demolition drives and sealing three structures during September, indicating that violations of building laws continue to be reported in different areas of Srinagar.

Of the 50 demolition drives, 15 were carried out in Zone South, 10 in Zone North, 10 in Zone West and 15 in Zone East, according to the SMC.
The civic body also initiated sealing action against three structures, including one in Ward 18 Baghwanpora in Zone West and two in Zone East, in Wards 02 Lal Chowk and 07 Khanyar.
The continued enforcement action comes against the backdrop of ongoing cases involving unauthorized and non-compliant construction in Srinagar. The Jammu and Kashmir High Court has in recent proceedings dealt with cases concerning alleged violations of sanctioned building plans and construction carried out without valid permissions. In June 2026, the court record in one case noted allegations of unauthorized construction and continued construction activity despite complaints to municipal authorities.
Under the municipal building bye-laws, construction deemed unauthorized can be subjected to stop-work directions, sealing and demolition action, depending on the circumstances and applicable provisions.
Chief Enforcement Officer Suhail Nabi Chintsaz while talking to the news agency Kashmir News Trust warned that additional sealing operations are scheduled for the coming week and urged citizens to strictly comply with building laws and urban planning regulations to avoid enforcement action.
The latest drive highlights continued enforcement pressure on unauthorized and non-compliant construction activities across different municipal zones of Srinagar.
