Srinagar, July 28: Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Kashmir (SKUAST-K) has earned national recognition after senior scientist Prof. Syed Mudasir Andrabi was awarded the prestigious JC Bose Fellowship, one of India's highest scientific honours, for his outstanding contributions to biotechnology, innovation and translational research.

Prof. Andrabi, Professor and Head of the Division of Animal Biotechnology at the Faculty of Veterinary Sciences and Animal Husbandry, has been selected for the fellowship in recognition of his sustained excellence in scientific research, technological innovation and academic leadership.
An internationally acclaimed researcher, Prof. Andrabi has made significant contributions in animal biotechnology, molecular diagnostics, vaccine development, regenerative medicine, bioengineering and translational biomedical research. His work focuses on developing technologies that address critical challenges in human and animal health while supporting agricultural advancement.
He currently leads several major research projects funded by premier national agencies, including the Anusandhan National Research Foundation (ANRF), Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Department of Science and Technology (DST), Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR). His research spans antimicrobial resistance, gene editing, regenerative medicine, vaccine development and the One Health approach.
Among his notable innovations are SalOvac™, a recombinant Lactobacillus-based vaccine against poultry salmonellosis, the RealTick Multiplex Real-Time PCR Diagnostic Kit for human rickettsial infections, LungHealth-MDx, a digital PCR-based diagnostic platform, advanced burn recovery bandages and regenerative biomaterials. He holds 13 granted patents, including two U.S. patents, besides several international patent applications and licensed technologies.
Over the years, Prof. Andrabi has received numerous national and international honours, including the Technology Transfer Impact Award (2026), Linghard Memorial Award (2024), Mid-Career Scientist Award (2023), Young Scientist Award, and the DBT-CREST Overseas Fellowship. He also serves on expert committees of the ANRF, DBT, DST, the Agricultural Scientists Recruitment Board (ASRB) and other scientific advisory bodies.
A prolific academic, he has published nearly 175 research papers in leading international journals, authored book chapters and mentored a large number of doctoral, postgraduate and postdoctoral researchers.
Congratulating Prof. Andrabi, SKUAST-K Vice-Chancellor Prof. Nazir Ahmad Ganai said the honour reflects the university's growing stature in frontier scientific research and innovation. He said the recognition would inspire the research community to pursue high-impact science and accelerate the development of technologies that benefit agriculture, livestock and society.
The university described the fellowship as a landmark achievement for both SKUAST-K and Jammu & Kashmir, reinforcing the institution's emergence as a national centre for translational research, innovation and technology development.
