SKUAST-K marks World Bicycle Day with rally

Srinagar, June 7: To commemorate World Bicycle Day, Sher-e-Kashmir University of Sciences and Technology of Kashmir organised a Bicycle Rally on Sunday aimed at promoting environmental sustainability and encouraging a healthy lifestyle among students and employees of the university.

The event, organised by the SKUAST-K’s Dean Students Welfare Department, was flagged off by Vice-Chancellor, Prof Nazir Ahmed Ganai, from the Shalimar Campus. A large number of students, faculty members, officers, and staff members participated in the rally, demonstrating their commitment towards a cleaner environment and healthier living.
The bicycle rally commenced from the Shalimar Campus and culminated at the Foreshore Road. The event carried the message of reducing pollution by minimising the use of automobiles and adopting eco-friendly modes of transportation. Participants also highlighted the importance of cycling as one of the most effective forms of physical exercise, contributing significantly to fitness and overall well-being.
Speaking on the occasion, the Vice-Chancellor appreciated the efforts of the Dean Students Welfare for taking the initiative to promote a healthy lifestyle and environmental consciousness among the university community. He emphasised that such activities not only create awareness about sustainable practices but also encourage individuals to adopt healthy habits in their daily lives.
The participants pledged to support environmental protection initiatives and incorporate cycling into their routine as a means of contributing towards a greener and healthier future.
The event concluded with a strong message advocating active lifestyles, reduced carbon emissions, and collective responsibility towards environmental conservation.
