New Delhi, Feb 17: The 4th edition of the Assam Rifles Sentinels Cup (Men & Women) 2026 commenced on February 17 in Shillong, Meghalaya, marking another significant step in promoting sports and youth engagement across the Northeast.

The tournament was inaugurated by Maj Gen Jai Singh Bainsla, Additional Director General of the Assam Rifles, in the presence of senior military officials, local dignitaries, players, and sports enthusiasts. The event is being supported by sponsor North Eastern Electric Power Corporation (NEEPCO).
In his inaugural address, Maj Gen Bainsla highlighted the importance of sports as a tool for fostering discipline, teamwork, and national integration. He emphasised that initiatives like the Sentinels Cup not only provide a competitive platform for talented youth from the region but also strengthen bonds between security forces and local communities.
The Sentinels Cup has grown steadily since its inception, attracting participation from both men and women teams across the Northeast. The tournament aims to identify emerging talent, encourage healthy competition, and channel youthful energy towards constructive pursuits.
The opening ceremony featured a vibrant display of local culture and enthusiasm, setting the tone for an exciting tournament ahead. Officials expressed confidence that this year’s edition would further enhance the sporting ecosystem in Meghalaya and the wider Northeast, while reinforcing the Assam Rifles’ commitment to community outreach and youth empowerment.
