School reopening: Traffic police tighten measures

February 22, 2026 | BK News Service

Srinagar, Feb 21 : Senior Superintendent of Police Traffic City Srinagar Ajaz Ahmad on Saturday said efforts are underway to streamline vehicular movement in view of the reopening of schools and regular functioning of offices across the city.

Speaking to reporters, the SSP said traffic volume is expected to rise significantly once educational institutions resume operations. He, however, expressed confidence that necessary arrangements are in place to manage the anticipated rush.
He said strict measures are being taken to prevent congestion in busy markets and key intersections. Shopkeepers have been directed not to display merchandise on roads and footpaths, as such practices obstruct smooth vehicular and pedestrian movement.
The SSP added that teams have been deployed to monitor road encroachments across the city and warned that no individual will be allowed to disrupt traffic flow. He said enforcement drives will continue to ensure compliance and improve overall road discipline.
The Traffic Police has appealed to commuters and traders to cooperate in maintaining orderly movement and avoid unnecessary obstructions.
