Rambagh dumping site turns into stray dogs den, residents fume

October 13, 2026 | Mohammad Danish

Srinagar, Oct 12: The dumping site at Rambagh has become a growing source of nuisance for residents of nearby localities, with heaps of waste attracting stray dogs and foul-smelling garbage making life difficult for people living in the vicinity.

Residents have expressed concern over the deteriorating condition of the site, alleging that the accumulation of waste has created unhygienic surroundings and an unpleasant atmosphere. The pungent smell emanating from the dumping site has become a major source of discomfort, particularly for families residing nearby.
The presence of a large number of stray dogs around the waste has added to residents’ concerns, raising fears about public safety, especially for children, elderly people and pedestrians. The dogs frequently gather around the garbage in search of food, making the area increasingly unpleasant and potentially hazardous.
Locals said the situation calls for immediate intervention by the concerned civic authorities to ensure regular waste removal, proper disposal and effective sanitation measures. They stressed that the dumping site should not be allowed to become a permanent source of pollution and inconvenience for the surrounding neighbourhood.
Residents also expressed concern over the possible health implications of prolonged exposure to foul odours and unhygienic conditions. They urged the authorities to inspect the site, clear accumulated waste and put in place a sustainable waste-management mechanism to prevent the recurrence of the problem.
The residents have appealed to the Srinagar Municipal Corporation and other concerned agencies to take urgent steps to improve sanitation, control the stray-dog menace around the site and restore cleanliness in the area.
They said that maintaining public hygiene and ensuring a clean environment should be a priority, particularly in residential neighbourhoods where people are directly affected by the improper handling of waste.
Residents hope that the concerned authorities will act promptly to address their grievances and prevent the Rambagh dumping site from continuing to pose a nuisance to the local population.
