Russian Poplus introduced in the state of Jammu and Kashmir on large scale through world bank aided social forestry project in 1980.Interms of scientific terminology Poplus alba belonging to the family Saliaca cease.It's reproductive structures i.e male and female partspresent on different plants. These reproductivepartsare small in size and densely packed together in the form of hanging inflorescence called Catkins. Russian Poplus generally occurs by the help of wind in botanical terms this pollination is known as Aanemophily.It has been widely growing in Kashmir from last many years. As its demand in wood industry increasing tremendously and become one of the main economic source in Kashmir. These Poplus trees meet 80Percent demand of fruit boxes and 15 percent raw material for ply board industry.
If looking on the other side then obviously Russian Poplus is main source of allergen and other health issue disorders. In the month of April Mayespecially female popular tress are produceing white cottony balls these white balls are responsible for various respiratory diseases and skin allergies. These cottony seeds acts as vector for the dissemination of everything present in the atmosphere during the season such as spores of bacteria, fungi and pollen of other seeds. These pollen grains enter human nostrils and throats triggering a type of seasonal allergy and the persons who are pollen allergic seem to fall in a havoc. The common symptoms of pollen induced allergy include nasal irritation, running nose and bronchitis.From last few days I'm visiting to my orchard in the way I had seen a lot of children as well old personswho are constantly sneezing.The pollen from the popular trees now becomes nuisance for the people. By the help of wind these cotton balls carried away to distant places results into various disorders. These cotton balls could facilitate the spread of viruses. It has enhancing problems for the Kashmir as symptoms being almost similar with the disease caused by coronovirus. It will create panic and terror among the general masses. in some persons these pollen triggers skin allergy resulting into the itching and burning sensation. Those people who are sensitive to seed pollen allergens should use masks in these months. They should avoid going to those places where these Poplar trees growing on mass scale.
