Imphal, Sep 20: The Indian Army and Assam Rifles formations under Spear Corps have stepped up efforts to promote women’s empowerment and sustainable livelihoods in Manipur through Project PRANITA, an initiative aimed at enhancing skills and creating employment opportunities for women from local communities.

Under the initiative, women have been selected for specialised skill development training in collaboration with Marriott International and the UNAU Skill Development Centre. Following completion of the training, the beneficiaries will be provided opportunities for employment and professional assignments at different locations across India.
The initiative seeks to equip women with industry-relevant skills and enable them to pursue sustainable livelihood opportunities beyond their immediate communities. By linking skill development with employment, Project PRANITA aims to strengthen economic independence and self-reliance among participating women.
The programme also reflects the focus of the Armed Forces on supporting communities through initiatives extending beyond traditional security responsibilities. Skill development and livelihood programmes provide avenues for young people and women to build professional capabilities and contribute to their families and communities.
The collaboration with Marriott International and UNAU Skill Development Centre brings together institutional support, professional training and employment opportunities, creating a structured pathway for the selected beneficiaries.
Officials said initiatives such as Project PRANITA can help women gain confidence, develop specialised skills and access wider employment opportunities. The programme is also expected to encourage other members of local communities to explore skill-based careers and entrepreneurship.
The Indian Army and Assam Rifles said their continued engagement with communities in Manipur remains focused on supporting self-reliance, capacity building and inclusive development.
