October 23, 2025 | BK News Service

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Srinagar, Dr. Sundeep Chakarvarti, on Wednesday said that police are determined to steer the youth of the city away from the menace of drug addiction by engaging them in constructive and positive activities, particularly sports.

Speaking during an awareness programme, Dr. Chakarvarti said Srinagar Police has intensified its efforts to organize a series of sports events and community initiatives aimed at providing youth with platforms to showcase their talent and channel their energy productively. “We are committed to keeping our young generation away from drugs. Sports, education, and community engagement are the best ways to prevent youth from falling into the trap of addiction,” he said.
The SSP urged the youth to use their energy and potential in meaningful pursuits and assured that the police are always available to extend help and guidance. “If any youth feels trapped or needs support, they should not hesitate to approach the police. We will ensure they receive the necessary help,” Dr. Chakarvarti added.
He emphasized that the success of the anti-drug campaign requires collective efforts from parents, teachers, and civil society. “Our fight against drugs is not only a policing responsibility but a shared social obligation,” he said.
Srinagar Police has recently conducted multiple sports tournaments and awareness drives under its “Drug-Free Srinagar” initiative, which seeks to combine enforcement with prevention and rehabilitation measures.
