Rajouri July 27: As part of the nationwide commemorations leading up to Kargil Vijay Diwas 2026, the Army Commander, Northern Command, Lt Gen Pratik Sharma, graced the 'Gauravmay Sanskriti' cultural event organised at Vishwanathan Stadium, Dras, paying tribute to the indomitable courage and supreme sacrifice of the heroes of the 1999 Kargil War.Lt Gen Pratik Sharma, who commands the Northern Command of the Indian Army and oversees operational preparedness along some of the country's most sensitive frontiers, has consistently emphasised the values of operational excellence, national security, and the welfare of soldiers and veterans. His presence at the event underscored the Army's unwavering commitment to preserving the legacy of the bravehearts of Operation Vijay and inspiring future generations with their stories of courage and patriotism.

The event showcased the rich military heritage and patriotic spirit through a series of captivating performances. The Ladakh Scouts Regimental Centre Band enthralled the audience with stirring patriotic melodies, while the Shwet Ashwa Motorcycle Riders displayed exceptional skill, precision and discipline in a breathtaking motorcycle performance. Students of Harka Bahadur Army Goodwill School presented vibrant cultural dances celebrating the nation's unity and diversity, and a spectacular drone display illuminated the skies over Dras, adding grandeur to the occasion.
One of the most emotional moments of the programme was the felicitation of the Next of Kins of the Kargil Bravehearts, honouring the families of soldiers who made the supreme sacrifice during Operation Vijay. The solemn ceremony reflected the nation's eternal gratitude to the martyrs and acknowledged the strength and resilience of their families, whose sacrifices remain an enduring source of inspiration.Addressing those present, Lt Gen Pratik Sharma highlighted the significance of Kargil Vijay Diwas as a symbol of the courage, valour and unwavering determination of the Indian Armed Forces.
