NIA raids Anantnag in terror case

August 23, 2026 | BK NEWS SERVICE

Srinagar, Aug 22: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Saturday conducted searches at two locations in Anantnag district as part of its ongoing investigation into a terror-related case, officials said.

The searches were carried out at residential premises in Bijbehara and Dooru by NIA teams accompanied by personnel of the Jammu and Kashmir Police and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF).
Officials said the operation was linked to an ongoing NIA investigation, although details of the case were not immediately disclosed. Search proceedings were underway at both locations, with further details awaited from the agency.
It was also not immediately clear whether the searches resulted in any arrests or recovery of incriminating material. The NIA is expected to issue further details as the investigation progresses.
The operation comes a day after Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha stressed the need for a whole-of-society approach to counter terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir.
Addressing a gathering in Rajouri after laying the foundation stone of Amriteshwar Sarovar under the Jan Sanchay Jan Bhagidari initiative, Sinha said community participation was crucial to eliminating terrorism, narco-terrorism, substance abuse and corruption.
He urged people to remain vigilant against the activities of anti-national elements, report suspicious movements and completely isolate individuals supporting terrorism.
“Security forces alone cannot defeat terrorism,” the Lieutenant Governor said, emphasising that coordinated efforts by the Army, J&K Police, security agencies, administration and local communities were necessary to dismantle the financial and logistical networks sustaining terror activities.
Sinha said sustained security and societal efforts had significantly weakened terrorism and contributed to a transformed security environment in Jammu and Kashmir.
The latest NIA searches underline the continuing focus of central and local security agencies on identifying terror networks, their support structures and associated financial and logistical channels in the region.
