In a landmark move, Jawahar Lal Nehru Memorial (JLNM) Hospital, Rainawari, has become the first district hospital in India to launch its own quarterly medical journal — a pioneering initiative aimed at promoting research and academic discourse at the grassroots level of healthcare.
The formal launch ceremony was held today in the presence of Minister for Health and Medical Education, Mrs. Sakeena Masood Itoo, who lauded the initiative as a significant step toward decentralizing medical research and empowering district-level institutions. She was joined by MLA Zadibal, Tanveer Sadiq; Director Health Services, Kashmir Dr. Jehangir Bakshi; Prof. Altaf Kawoosa (Head of Orthopaedics, GMC Srinagar); Medical Superintendent of JLNM Hospital, Dr. Tariq Jan and Deputy Medical Superintendent, Dr. Asifa Jan.
Speaking at the event, the minister emphasized the importance of integrating academic research with clinical practice, stating, “This journal will serve as a platform for healthcare professionals working in district hospitals to share their insights, case studies and innovations, thereby enriching the wider medical community.”
The quarterly publication is expected to feature peer-reviewed articles, clinical research, case reports and expert commentaries from across the region. It aims to bridge the gap between tertiary and district healthcare institutions by fostering a culture of continuous learning and professional growth.
This initiative by JLNM Hospital not only highlights the growing academic potential within district-level healthcare facilities but also sets a precedent for other hospitals across the country to follow.
