NEP Policy a Vision Yet to Reflect in Practice

April 21, 2026 | Sheikh Arshid Ahmad

The National Education Policy( NEP) 2020 pledges a transformative vision for among scholars, yet in numerous classrooms it remains more a conception in documents than a reality in practice.

" In class apartments a devoted schoolteacher tries his stylish to inculcate quality education by involving different chops but owing low standard of books he becomes hindered person in the class."
Books play a pivotal part in shaping a pupil’s academic trip as well as unborn stability. The books can be so effective in designing the future of scholars in any positive direction whatsoever a pupil wants, if books can be used effectively and at the right time, they can nurture knowledge, chops, and direction in life. substantially in the tutoring – literacy process, books act as a ground between preceptors and scholars, transmitting not only subject knowledge but also behavioural, social, and ethical values.
" A schoolteacher is the first companion and alleviation for a pupil from which he can aspire a big change in his life and society, that is why preceptors has to concentrate on every script of his life that's from wearing custome to use of mindset as everything is possible transmitting to pupil during the tutoring- literacy process."
Alongside books, the schoolteacher remains the most influential companion and motivator, helping scholars understand their individuality, social liabilities, moral values, and indeed profitable and religious mindfulness.
Traditionally, books have been seen as the foundation of societal development. A pupil deeply engaged with books is frequently considered more apprehensive and responsible, able of developing knowledge, chops, and indeed leadership rates. still, the current reality raises concerns. With reference to books specified by NCERT and BOSE under the frame of NEP 2020, there's a growing perception that rather of uplifting scholars’ implicit, these books frequently bring learners to a invariant position, limiting creativity and advanced- order thinking.
The prospects of NEP — similar as critical thinking, creativity, all cognitive capacities and faculty- grounded literacy — are not completely reflected in the design and quality of these books.
Although the class includes rudiments like conditioning, systems, case studies, and existential literacy, in practice these frequently come burdensome rather than engaging. preceptors constantly feel pressured and frustrated while trying to balance play- way styles with abstract clarity in overcrowded classrooms and limited coffers.
" At the end of every chapter there are sections like let's have fun, let's do an exertion, did you know, Factopedia, TLM medication, Maps and delineations, Hots question, google exploration and logical part, these are only related with cognitive development and creativity of mindset."
When asked to advanced officers about the low standard frame of books, a common defense given is that content must feed to scholars from different backgrounds, including marginalized communities similar as Gujjars and Bakerwals. While inclusivity is essential, it should n't come at the cost of lowering academic norms. But we know that psychologically, all learners retain analogous cognitive eventuality; differences arise substantially due to exposure, terrain, and openings.
A simple suggestion to all the preceptors, rather than fastening solely on the failings of handbooks, preceptors must fete their own vital part. A schoolteacher is, in numerous ways, a living book — constantly observed and learned from by scholars. Strong determination, medication, and innovative tutoring styles can overcome numerous limitations of specified accoutrements .
For illustration, while tutoring a content like photosynthesis, a schoolteacher can go beyond handbooks by incorporating reference accoutrements , digital coffers, tutoring- literacy accoutrements ( TLM), maps, and interactive conditioning. By integrating chops similar as design work, trials, fieldwork, and advanced- order thinking exercises, preceptors can make learning further meaningful and effective.
While the government is making sweats to ameliorate the education system, a significant gap remains in both the quality of handbooks and the practical perpetration of skill- grounded literacy.
There's an critical need for authorities to review and upgrade the standard of books so that they truly align with the vision of NEP 2020.
Only through a concerted trouble — bettered coffers, empowered preceptors, and thoughtful policy prosecution — can we achieve meaningful metamorphosis in education.
