NC failed to deliver on promises: LoP

‘June 3 meeting a floor test'

Jammu, June 1: Leader of Opposition and senior BJP leader Sunil Sharma on Monday accused the National Conference-led government of failing to fulfil its promises and claimed Chief Minister Omar Abdullah was more focused on personal activities than addressing public issues.
"The issue is with the government and the promises it made to the people. Instead of fulfilling them, they have only cheated and misled the public," Sharma said.
He said BJP was consistently raising public concerns and holding the government accountable.
"We wake up the government every day with people's issues. It is the government's responsibility to resolve them," he said.
Referring to criticism over his recent visit to Assam during elections, Sharma said he was free to travel anywhere in the country.
"Assam is a part of India and I am an Indian. I can go anywhere in the country," he said.
The BJP leader also targeted the National Conference over the issue of statehood, asserting that restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir was an agenda of the BJP and not of the NC.
"There is no demand for statehood in the NC's agenda. Their agenda has been autonomy and restoration of the pre-1953 position. Statehood will be granted by the BJP," he said.
The LoP said the Centre would take a decision on statehood at an appropriate time and when it was satisfied that law and order remained stable.
Referring to June 3 meeting of NC and independent MLAs supporting the government convened by the CM, Sharma described it as a "floor test".
"This is not a meeting. Omar feels every day that his MLAs are decreasing. The June 3 exercise is a floor test outside the Assembly," he said.
Sharma alleged that the CM was convening the meeting to assess support within the ruling camp rather than discuss governance issues.
"They are counting MLAs. Next month they will do the same exercise again," he added.
