Srinagar, May 7: The ongoing 100-day Nasha Mukt Jammu and Kashmir Abhiyan launched under the leadership of Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha is witnessing widespread public support across the Union Territory, with citizens hailing the campaign as a decisive step against the growing menace of drug abuse and narcotics trafficking.
The anti-drug campaign, which combines enforcement drives, public awareness programmes, rehabilitation initiatives, and community participation, has intensified action against drug peddlers and illegal narcotics networks across Jammu and Kashmir.
People from different sections of society have described the initiative as a much-needed intervention that has created visible pressure on drug traffickers and sent strong shock waves among those involved in the narcotics trade.
Over the past several weeks, police and enforcement agencies have carried out massive operations across districts, leading to the arrest of drug peddlers, seizure of narcotic substances, attachment of properties acquired through drug money, and closure of medical shops found violating drug control regulations.
Officials said the campaign is not limited to policing alone but also focuses on awareness generation among youth, students, parents, and local communities regarding the harmful effects of substance abuse.
Educational institutions, sports bodies, health departments, religious organizations, and civil society groups have actively participated in rallies, seminars, sports competitions, padyatras, pledge ceremonies, and awareness programmes being conducted under the campaign.
Residents across Kashmir and Jammu divisions have welcomed the intensified crackdown, saying the drug menace had become a serious concern affecting families and the younger generation.
“This campaign has given hope to parents and society. Strict action against peddlers was the need of the hour, and the administration is finally moving strongly in that direction,” said a resident of Srinagar.
Another local from South Kashmir said the anti-drug operations have created fear among those involved in narcotics trafficking. “Drug peddlers are now under pressure. Continuous raids and property attachments have sent a strong message,” he said.
Many citizens appreciated Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha for personally monitoring the campaign and directing departments to work in coordination to tackle the issue comprehensively.
People also welcomed the focus on rehabilitation and counselling, saying that awareness and treatment are equally important alongside strict law enforcement.
Under the campaign, police and drug control authorities have intensified inspections of pharmacies and medical shops to prevent misuse of psychotropic substances and illegal sale of drugs. Several shops violating prescribed laws have been sealed during recent enforcement drives.
Sports and youth engagement programmes organized across districts are also being seen as a positive effort to channel the energy of young people towards healthy and constructive activities.
Officials said the administration remains committed to making Jammu and Kashmir drug-free through sustained enforcement, community participation, and public awareness.
The campaign has increasingly emerged as one of the largest coordinated anti-drug movements in Jammu and Kashmir in recent years, drawing support from citizens who believe the initiative is moving in the right direction and strengthening the fight against substance abuse across the region.
