Jammu, Nov 3: Health and Medical Education Minister Sakeena Itoo on Tuesday conducted a surprise inspection of Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu to assess patient care, emergency services and overall hospital functioning.
During the visit, the Minister inspected the Emergency wing and other hospital sections, reviewed the availability of medical facilities, staff deployment, sanitation and patient management arrangements. She also interacted with patients and attendants to obtain feedback on the healthcare services.
Emphasising the importance of emergency response, Itoo directed the hospital administration to ensure round-the-clock availability of doctors, paramedical staff and essential medical facilities.
She stressed that the effective utilisation of the Golden Hour in trauma and emergency cases was crucial to saving lives and called for prompt diagnosis, timely treatment and better coordination among medical teams.
“Every patient reaching the hospital in an emergency must receive immediate attention without avoidable delay,” she said, directing officials to streamline emergency protocols and eliminate procedural bottlenecks.
The Minister also chaired a meeting with the GMC administration, stressing the need for improved cleanliness and sanitation across wards, corridors, washrooms, waiting areas and emergency sections. She called for regular monitoring, proper biomedical waste disposal and accountability of sanitation agencies.
Highlighting GMC Jammu's role as a major tertiary healthcare institution, Itoo stressed optimal utilisation of available infrastructure, equipment and human resources to improve patient services.
She directed the administration to maintain close supervision of hospital functioning and take immediate corrective measures wherever deficiencies were identified.
Reiterating the government's commitment to strengthening public healthcare, the Minister said quality treatment, timely services, hospital hygiene and compassionate patient care must remain top priorities.
