Menchuka, Oct 26: In a significant initiative to promote fitness, adventure and civil-military relations, an Indian Army formation under the Spear Corps organised the maiden edition of the Menchuka Valour Run 2026 in Shi-Yomi district of Arunachal Pradesh ahead of Infantry Day.
The event witnessed the participation of over 500 runners who competed in three categories — the 5-km Salute Run, 10-km Valour Run and 21-km Spear Run — showcasing their endurance, determination and sporting spirit against the scenic backdrop of the region.
The run was organised to encourage fitness and adventure sports while paying tribute to the courage, dedication and sacrifices of the Indian Army’s Infantry personnel. The initiative also provided a platform for local residents and participants to engage in a shared sporting experience.
A special attraction of the event was a display of military weapons and equipment, offering participants and spectators an opportunity to gain insights into the operational capabilities of the Army. Martial performances by troops further added to the occasion, reflecting the discipline, traditions and valour associated with the Infantry.
The event also highlighted the rich cultural heritage of Shi-Yomi district and the broader Northeast region, bringing together the spirit of adventure, local traditions and national pride.
The participation of people from different backgrounds underscored the role of sporting events in fostering mutual trust, strengthening bonds between the Army and local communities, and encouraging greater youth involvement in constructive activities.
The maiden Menchuka Valour Run formed part of the Army’s outreach initiatives aimed at promoting a culture of fitness, camaraderie and community participation in the strategically important border region.
The event concluded with a celebration of sporting excellence, military valour and the enduring spirit of unity, reinforcing the importance of people-to-people engagement in strengthening civil-military relations.
