March 08, 2026 | BK News Service

Ganderbal, Mar 7: A joint market checking drive was conducted in Kangan market of central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district on Saturday to ensure fair trade practices and safeguard consumer interests during the holy month of Ramadhan.

The inspection was carried out by a team comprising officials from Ganderbal Police, the Executive Magistrate and the Food Safety Department.
During the drive, several shops dealing in essential commodities, food items and other consumables were inspected to verify compliance with government regulations.
Officials said the teams checked whether traders had properly displayed rate lists, maintained quality standards of food items and ensured hygienic conditions within their establishments.
The authorities also examined sanitation arrangements and the handling of food products in different shops across the market.
Shopkeepers and vendors were directed to strictly follow government norms, maintain transparency in pricing and avoid overcharging customers during the holy month when market activity increases significantly.
Officials also advised traders to ensure proper hygiene and cleanliness in their premises and provide quality goods to consumers.
The joint team warned that any violation of rules, including the sale of substandard food items or overpricing of essential commodities, would invite strict legal action as per law.
Police officials said such drives are being conducted to maintain market discipline and ensure that consumers receive quality products at fair prices during Ramadhan.
Authorities said similar market checking drives will continue in other areas of Ganderbal district in the coming days to prevent irregularities and ensure a fair and safe market environment for the public.
