Noklak, Aug 27: Inspector General of Assam Rifles (North), Gen Harinder Singh Mavi, undertook a two-day visit to Dan and Noklak in Nagaland on August 25–26, reviewing operational preparedness, troop welfare and security measures while engaging with local communities, students and prominent personalities.

During his visit to Dan on August 25, Gen Mavi inspected the Dan Company Operating Base (COB) and interacted with troops, reviewing their operational readiness, welfare and overall security posture. He appreciated the personnel for maintaining a high level of preparedness and commitment in the challenging border region.
The Assam Rifles IG also met members of the Village Council and civil society organisations (CSOs), holding discussions on key developmental requirements of the area. Among the issues highlighted was the need for a paved road connecting the RCC Bridge with Dan COB, along with the installation of solar-powered lights to improve connectivity and safety.
Gen Mavi also emphasised the importance of strengthening border management, including border fencing, while taking note of concerns and suggestions raised by local residents. The interaction reflected the Assam Rifles’ continued focus on combining operational preparedness with community engagement and development initiatives in border areas.
On August 26, the IG visited Noklak, where he interacted with students and representatives of Christian Higher Secondary School and The Creative Children’s Friendship Centre. He appreciated the institutions for their contribution to education, youth development and empowerment, and encouraged students to pursue education and contribute positively to society.
Gen Mavi also met Padma Shri awardee Shri L. Hangthing, popularly recognised as the “Fruit Man of Nagaland”. He appreciated Hangthing’s pioneering contribution to agriculture and fruit cultivation and acknowledged his efforts in promoting sustainable agricultural practices and inspiring local communities.
The two-day visit underscored the Assam Rifles’ multi-dimensional approach in the Northeast—maintaining strong operational readiness and border security while strengthening relations with communities, supporting education and encouraging local development and agricultural initiatives.
