Srinagar, Sep 21: Leader of Opposition Sunil Sharma on Monday launched a scathing attack on the ruling National Conference, alleging that several of its offices have been constructed on Waqf Board and government land in violation of the law.
Talking to media persons, Sharma said the encroachments reflected a "culture of entitlement" within the NC and demanded an impartial probe into how such properties were occupied.
He urged the administration to identify the land in question and initiate action to reclaim it.
"Land belonging to the Waqf Board is meant for community welfare, not for building political offices," Sharma said, adding that no party should be allowed to benefit from illegal occupation, regardless of its influence.
The LoP warned that if authorities failed to act, his party would take the issue to the people through a sustained public campaign.
He also accused Omar Abdullah government of wanting to evade BJP's questions on the people's issues in the Union territory.
“BJP was playing its role as an effective opposition by raising questions regarding the NHM employees, ASHA workers, anganwadi workers, CAMPA workers, GRS and technical assistants. People are depressed due to outsourcing, and they demand answers. The Bharatiya Janata Party, acting as the voice for these victimised sections, demanded answers from the government today. Omar Abdullah wants to run away; the government wants to run away from people's issues," Sharma said.
The LoP said when the government fails, it becomes the duty of the opposition to hold the government accountable before the people in the assembly. “The BJP wants to fulfil its responsibility with integrity. That is why today we tried to demand answers from the government”.
BJP MLAs disrupted the House proceedings on the first day of the autumn session soon after the obituary references ended. The continued protests and sloganeering by the BJP members prompted Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather to adjourn the house for the day.
