
Gulmarg, Feb 23: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha inaugurated the 6th Khelo India Winter Games (KIWG) at Gulmarg, welcoming around 1,000 athletes and officials from various states and UTs.
Highlighting the broader significance of the event, Sinha said, “Khelo India Winter Games revive the ideals of peace, equality, and camaraderie. They build resilience, teach athletes to rise after setbacks, and strengthen national unity.” He urged participants to uphold sportsmanship, discipline, and mutual respect during the four-day event, which features alpine skiing, Nordic skiing, snowboarding, and ski mountaineering.
The LG also noted the development of sports infrastructure under the Prime Minister’s Development Package, emphasizing the role of modern facilities and dedicated officials in nurturing young talent. He added, “True character reveals itself not just in victory, but in adversity. Success will be measured by unity, respect, and excellence, not medals alone.”
The inaugural ceremony was attended by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, Ministers, senior officials, sports personalities, and large numbers of enthusiasts.
