
Kargil, Feb 16: In a proud achievement for Ladakh, Sonam Chospal from the farflung village of Sapi in Kargil district secured a Bronze Medal in the Male Team Under-30 Poomsae category at the 2nd Mt. Everest GCS International Open Taekwondo Poomsae Tournament held at Kathmandu, Nepal on 16th February.
Sonam also competed in the Individual Under-30 Poomsae event but narrowly missed a podium finish. His strong performance in the team event brought laurels to Ladakh as he and his teammates raised the Indian National Flag high on the international stage.
Meanwhile, Shanaz Parveen of Ladakh delivered an impressive performance by reaching the Top 8 in the Individual Under-30 Female Poomsae category, showcasing the rising standard of women athletes from the region in international competitions.
General Secretary of Ladakh Taekwondo Association, Anayat Ali Shotopa, congratulated both athletes for their outstanding performances and extended appreciation to their families for their continuous support.
He also thanked Namdev Shirgaonkar, President of India Taekwondo, for providing international exposure and opportunities to talented players from remote areas like Sapi in Kargil. He said such platforms motivate athletes from Ladakh to strive for excellence and further strengthen the promotion of Taekwondo in the region.
The Ladakh Taekwondo Association reiterated its commitment to nurturing young talent and promoting the sport across Ladakh.
