
Kupwara, June 23: Kupwara Women’s Volleyball League 2026, organized by the Indian Army in collaboration with the District Youth Services & Sports Department (DYSS), Kupwara, under the banner of "Roshan Mustaqbil", commenced today at Government Boys Higher Secondary School (BHSS), Kupwara.
The tournament was inaugurated by Colonel Namrata Rathore, who declared the league open and encouraged the participating athletes to showcase their talent, sportsmanship, and determination throughout the competition.
The opening ceremony was graced by several distinguished dignitaries, including Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kupwara, Syed Al Tahir Gilani, District Youth Services & Sports Officer (DYSSO) Kupwara, District Education Planning Officer (DEPO) Kupwara, and Principal, BHSS Kupwara, who attended as special guests and appreciated the efforts being made to promote women’s participation in sports.
The league is being conducted on a league format basis and features eight women’s volleyball teams representing different parts of the district. Nearly 100 players are participating in the three-day sporting event, scheduled from 23 June 2026 to 25 June 2026.
A large number of spectators, sports enthusiasts, students, and local residents gathered at the venue to witness the opening matches and cheer for the participating teams, creating an energetic and encouraging atmosphere.
The tournament aims to promote women’s empowerment through sports, provide a platform for young athletes to demonstrate their abilities, and strengthen community engagement through healthy competition.
