Kulgam, Sep 22: Deputy Commissioner (DC) Kulgam, Shahzad Alam today inaugurated the U-14 and U-17 girls baseball Inter-District Divisional-Level Tournament at L/NK Shri Nazir Ahmad Wani, Boys Higher Secondary School, Kulgam.

While speaking on the occasion, the Deputy Commissioner called upon the Department of Youth Services and Sports to ensure opportunities for girls in sports are at par with those available to boys. He emphasized the importance of encouraging greater participation of girls in various sporting disciplines and creating a supportive environment for their overall development.
The DC also advised the girl athletes to cherish the sporting activities along with academic pursuits in their educational institutions. He also called upon them to register themselves on the Youth Empowerment Portal so that they can avail themselves of various opportunities and benefits available through the platform.
On the occasion, the DC appreciated and hailed the commendable dedication and efforts of students of the district towards engaging themselves in various sporting activities and participating in sports competitions being organised in the district.
The tournament shall witness participation from 16 teams of 8 districts of Kashmir Division providing young girl athletes a much needed platform to showcase their talent and sporting skills.
The inaugural function was attended by DYSSO, Kulgam, Narinder Pal Singh, other officials of the Youth Services & Sports Department, Kulgam and other sports enthusiasts.
