Jammu, April 8: Jammu & Kashmir has secured approval from the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) to establish a Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Artificial Intelligence at IIT Jammu, marking a major push toward building a strong digital and innovation ecosystem in the Union Territory.

Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo termed the initiative a landmark step, stating it will position J&K as an emerging hub for advanced technologies. The Centre is expected to equip youth with cutting-edge AI skills, boost employability, and support upcoming IT parks planned in Srinagar and Jammu.
The CoE will operate from a dedicated 10,000 sq. ft. space at IIT Jammu with a total outlay of ₹20 crore under a 90:10 funding model between MeitY and the UT government. It will function through a Special Purpose Vehicle under the IT Department.
