Govt Engaging Youth for Change in J&K

‘Inspire Gen-Z’ and ‘The Beats of J&K’, two contemporary digital shows created by the Department of Information and Public Relations (DIPR) and launched by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has become household name in the Union Territory.
Both programmes were started in an endeavour to engage, entertain and inspire the youth of Jammu and Kashmir.
While launching the digital shows last month, LG Sinha said from communicating Government programmes and policies to the public to disseminating cultural traditions, the Information Department is playing an important role by offering new ideas and perspectives.
‘Youth is the hope of our nation. The young generation of J&K wants to drive social progress, and contribute to economic growth and a better future for society and the nation. Our effort is to ignite their dreams and aspirations and to ensure they realise their true potential of changemakers’, the Lt Governor said.
The Lt Governor further observed that the dreams and aspirations of people can be truly realised only in conditions of peace and terrorism is one of the gravest threats to peace. “I call upon the young generation to come together to foil the efforts of elements disrupting normal life and economic progress of J&K,” the Lt Governor added.
The young generation should always rise above narrow considerations of caste, religion to build an inclusive and equitable society in today's inter-dependent world. The spirit of oneness can bring the most effective transformation in our society, the Lt Governor observed.
Akshay Labroo, Director, Information & Public Relations, J&K provided an insight into the new initiatives and programmes of the department to showcase the inspirational stories of change makers and providing a platform to the talented youth of the Union Territory.
In a promo, the Directorate of Information and Public Relation through their Twitter handle had given an insight about change makers of Jammu and Kashmir, who shared their stories and struggle so that our youth may be persuaded to dream and do big in life.
In the short promo, cricketer Umran Malik, kick boxing gold medalist Tajamul Islam, singers Ruhi Juhi & Sooraj Singh, Chain Singh Indian Olympic Athlete, Bollywood Actor Mir Sarwar, former Indian Cricketer Suresh Raina, Senior Superintendent of Police Baramulla Rayees Mohammad Bhat, Arushi Kotwal Chess Candidate Master, Bollywood and TV actor Iqbal Khan, IAS Secretary, Tribal Affairs Department, Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudhary, Abhay Rustum Sopori Santoor Master, Mehmeet Syed acclaimed singer.
It included Shiv Dutt Nirmohi (Padma Shri) Dogra writer, Indian Foreign Service Rahul Bhat and Faisal Ali Dar (Padma Shri) Martial Arts.
Inspire Gen-Z Program
Inspire Gen-Z Program brings out meaningful conversations with the change-maker who have ever made remarkable achievements in their respective fields. The Talk show aims to inspire the youth of Jammu and Kashmir towards constructive activities by providing opportunities to the Young Generation Z to interact with prominent personalities/achievers and learn from their experiences and achievement.
So far, two episodes of Inspire Gen-Z has been uploaded on Twitter and the YouTube channel of the Directorate of Information and Public Relation which featured Cricketer Umran Malik and Kick Boxing Gold Medalist Tajamul Islam.

Umran Malik

Pace sensation, Umran Malik also known as Jammu Express was the first guess on Inspire Gen-Z Program. During his interaction with interviewer Abhay Sharma, a Student Volunteer with the Department of Information & Public Relations, Umran Malik enlightened on how he would practice and maintain fitness to make a big on the national side of the Indian Cricket team.
“I used to play tennis ball cricket. Then I got a chance to be a part of IPL as a net bowler. Few of the bowlers were injured and I got the chance to play as a proper player I did my best to make a mark. I was a net bowler at the T20 world cup last year. It was a great experience”, Umran Malik said.
This year too, I performed quite well as I manage to take 22 wickets in 14 matches. Then I went on to play for the Indian team. So far the journey has been amazing, Umran said.
On bowling 150 Km/hour, Umran said, “I go to the gym in the evening. Then I go for the net practice and maintain a good diet. What is important in having a good sleep. I ensure 8 hours of sleep every diet. So, that has been a key factor”.
He further said that there is a lot of talent in Jammu and Kashmir and the infrastructure is being constructed as well. Adding that Umran said that if there are people who can look out for players there, then we can see good talent emerge in Jammu and Kashmir.
“Also, I want a sent a message to youth that they should avoid taking drugs and work hard in their life. It does not matter what sports you play. You need to give your 100 per cent in the game and the god will show you ways”, Umran Malik said.

Tajamul Islam

In the second episode of Inspire Gen-Z Program, the audience was introduced to Kick Boxing Gold Medalist Tajamul Islam. During the interaction with Mehak Yousuf, a Student Volunteer with the Department of Information & Public Relations, J&K, Islam said, “If you are thinking of coming into the sports, you need to stay focused. Be it the morning practice of the game, unless and until you are not focused, you won’t be able to make it big”.
Tajamul further said, “I can’t thank my mom for the support that she has given me. She fought for me so that I can practice and make a name for myself. My dad was impressed when I came with the medal the first time and since the journey has been amazing well”.
Adding that Tajamul further said that the future of India is bright as far as sports is concerned. The tally of medals in sports has increased over the past few years. And, now people have shown more interest and are encouraging their children be they a boy or girls. So, I think, India is going to rule sports in the coming year.
The Beats of J&K
The Beats of J&K was launched to promote the local music and local artists of J&K by providing them a platform to exhibit their talent. The show features singing performances of artists in Kashmiri, Dogri, Gojri, Pahadi, Bhaderwahi and other regional languages.
So far three episodes were showcased, which included Nazara Laina Jammuain Da by Kusha Sharma and Chinmaie Sharma. These are the lines from Dogri poetry by Padamshree Padma Sachdev describing the picturesque beauty of Jammu, composed in Jammu’s traditional and unique Paakh (chords) from singing.
The second episode featured mesmerizing Performance by Irfan and Bilal titled Pholham Patime Pyaare which is a Kashmiri Sufi Islaam describing the bewitching and enchanting beauty of Kashmir. The third episode featured, Dogri Folk Mashup “Plaao Mallahia”, “Laggi Kainchi”, Phandu Majuriya by Vanshika Jaral, a young sister hailing from Jammu known for Dogri Folk Songs.
