Officials said the armies of India and Pakistan again on Friday exchanged heavy gunfire along the Line of Control in Hajipeer sector of Uri in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.
Reports said both the armies exchanged small weapons initially. “Now heavy firing started in the area which has created panic in Churanda, Silikote, Tilawari, Sadpora and other villages living along LOC.”
In recent days, the two armies have been using heavy artillery to target each other’s locations, resulting in loss of life on both sides of the divide in Kashmir, including civilian and security personnel casualties.
The situation along the LoC is under control and largely peaceful, the Army said on Friday, asserting that it will not allow Pakistan to disturb peace in Kashmir.
In a joint briefing of security forces in Srinagar, Lt Gen Sarabjit Singh Dhillon, Commander of the 15 Corps, said the threat of improvised explosive devices in the Valley is “more pronounced”, but it is being tackled effectively by security forces by conducting regular searches.
