Srinagar, Sept 7: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Monday said he remained in constant touch with Union Home Minister Amit Shah as there were many pending issues between Jammu and Kashmir and the Central Government that needs to be addressed.
Responding to reporters' queries about his recent meeting with Shah in New Delhi, the Chief Minister said he discussed several pending issues concerning Jammu and Kashmir, including restoration of statehood, finalisation of Transaction of Business Rules and the reservation issue.
"I am in constant communication with the Home Minister. There are many issues between Jammu and Kashmir and the Central Government. Be it about statehood or business rules," he said.
Omar also flagged the pending appointment of the Advocate General for Jammu and Kashmir, saying it had been almost two years since the issue arose but the appointment has still not been made.
On the reservation issue, he said the response that was required from the Jammu and Kashmir Cabinet to the Central Government had been prepared but had not yet been sent to the Government of India.
"There were many issues that I met the Home Minister about," Omar said.
The CM also questioned the manner in which a mosque in Saharanpur UP was demolished, saying decisions were being taken "on the basis of religion".
"What can I say? They don't see our papers. Others have papers. Even if they don't have papers, there is no action against them," he said.
He alleged that decisions were being taken on religious lines and said the government should at least act on recent statements made by the RSS chief.
"If nothing else, then the RSS chief said in his speech. At least act on that. If you do that, it will be a good thing. But these people say one thing and do something else. They don't believe in what they say or what their leaders say. Nor do they have the strength to act on it," he said.
The CM also urged the security establishment in J&K to take frequent threats on social media against Kashmiri Pandits seriously and ensure that those behind such threats are identified and brought to justice.
Omar said such warnings should not be ignored and recalled targeted killings of migrants in Kashmir in the past.
"We have seen in the past, some years ago, when these targeted killings took place of migrants, whether government employees or even private citizens," he said, referring to incidents involving people working at places including a chemist shop, a dhaba and a bank.
"They were targeted purely because of their ethnicity or their religion. And this is something we can't afford," Omar said.
The Chief Minister said Jammu and Kashmir had already paid a heavy price for the violence of the early 1990s.
"I hope that the security establishment take these threats seriously. They investigate them. They find who the people behind it are. And the law follows its own course," he said.
