An encounter took place between terrorists and security forces in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Wednesday.
This is the ninth encounter in the Valley this month.
A security official said the joint teams of police, CRPF and army launched a cordon and a search operation following an input about the presence of militants in Badimarg area of Kulgam.
“As the cordon was being laid, terrorists opened fire triggering a gunbattle. The operation is underway,” officials said.
No casualties or injuries have been reported on either side so far.
On Tuesday morning, militants and joint forces exchanged fire at Nagmarg forest area in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district.
However, after the initial gunbattle, there was no fresh contact with militants. The massive combing operation in the area continued on Wednesday.
There has been an uptick in encounters in Kashmir this month. Eight terrorists have been shot dead in eight encounters in November. Most of the gun battles have taken place in North Kashmir while two encounters have also taken place in Srinagar.
