Jammu, Feb 14: The Jammu and Kashmir government has directed all departments to file appeals, writ petitions, LPAs, and SLPs strictly within the prescribed limitation periods, citing delays that have led to condonation applications or dismissals on technical grounds.
The Department of Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs has constituted Divisional and Administrative Level Committees to monitor compliance. The directive refers to Supreme Court judgment in Shivamma (Dead) by LRs v. Karnataka Housing Board & Others (2025 INSC 1104), emphasizing that delays caused by administrative negligence cannot be excused.
The government stressed that officers must handle litigation with urgency, take immediate steps upon receipt of judgments, and seek timely approvals for filing appeals or challenging decisions to safeguard the interests of the Union Territory.
