
Imphal, Feb 17: The Spear Corps, in collaboration with the All-Manipur Football Association, successfully organised the U-19 Women’s Football Tournament under Operation Sadbhavana from January 28 to February 16, 2026, in Manipur.
The tournament was aimed at promoting women’s empowerment, encouraging youth participation in sports, and fostering positive engagement with local communities. Teams from across the state participated, showcasing remarkable talent, discipline, and competitive spirit throughout the event.
Lt Gen Abhijit S Pendharkar, General Officer Commanding of Spear Corps, attended the closing ceremony and motivated the young players. He lauded their determination and highlighted the importance of sports in building confidence, leadership qualities, and teamwork among youth. He also reiterated the Army’s commitment to supporting initiatives that contribute to peace, harmony, and development in the region.
In an exciting final match, FC Imphal defeated YWC (L) by 4–1 to clinch the championship title. The match witnessed enthusiastic support from spectators and reflected the growing popularity of women’s football in Manipur.
The tournament, conducted under Operation Sadbhavana, reinforced the Indian Army’s efforts to strengthen bonds with local communities while providing meaningful platforms for young women to pursue their sporting aspirations.
