
Imphal , Feb 18: Lieutenant General Abhijit S Pendharkar, General Officer Commanding of the Spear Corps, visited the Jessami War Memorial in Manipur on February 18, 2026, to pay homage to the brave soldiers who fought in the historic Battle of Jessami.
At the solemn ceremony, the Corps Commander laid a wreath at the memorial and observed a moment of silence in honour of the valour and sacrifice displayed by the troops during one of the earliest battles fought on Indian soil during World War II. The Battle of Jessami, fought in 1944, is remembered for the resolute stand of Indian soldiers who resisted advancing enemy forces under extremely challenging conditions, playing a crucial role in shaping the course of operations in the region.
During his visit, Lt Gen Pendharkar highlighted the enduring legacy of courage, resilience and duty exemplified by the soldiers who fought at Jessami.
