Anantnag, Feb 18: Government Medical College (GMC) Anantnag has become the first newly established GMC in Jammu and Kashmir to receive approval for a Superspeciality course in Cardiology.
The National Board of Examinations has accredited three Dr NB Cardiology seats to the college’s Department of Cardiology. This milestone reflects ongoing efforts to expand access to specialised healthcare and advanced medical education in the Union Territory.
Congratulating the institution, Health and Medical Education Minister Sakeena Itoo praised the dedication of GMC Anantnag’s administration, faculty, and staff. She highlighted that the course will strengthen tertiary cardiac care in South Kashmir, reducing the need for patients to seek treatment outside the region.
The Minister added that the government has invested in infrastructure, specialist faculty recruitment, advanced equipment, and academic programme expansion. She noted that the introduction of the Superspeciality Cardiology course will not only enhance patient care but also provide postgraduate training opportunities, positioning GMC Anantnag as a regional hub for advanced cardiac research and treatment.
The accreditation sets a benchmark for other peripheral medical colleges in the country, reflecting the government’s vision to create a robust and accessible healthcare system across Jammu and Kashmir.
