The Central Vista project began because the old buildings had become inadequate for changing needs. The old Parliament building, constructed in 1927, was no longer sufficient due to the growing number of MPs and modern requirements
Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated Seva Teerth in the capital on February 13. With this, the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) has now shifted from South Block to Seva Teerth. Delhi is today becoming a unique symbol of the blend between modernity and tradition. After the Narendra Modi-led government came to power at the center in 2014, large-scale development work began in Delhi's Central Vista area. The Central Vista Redevelopment Project started in 2019 and is expected to be completed by 2026. Under this project, a new Parliament building, Seva Teerth (the new Prime Minister's Office), Kartavya Bhavan, and several other buildings have been constructed. These buildings are not only meant to improve administrative efficiency but also make extensive use of Vastu Shastra principles, which are deeply connected to Indian culture.
The Central Vista project began because the old buildings had become inadequate for changing needs. The old Parliament building, constructed in 1927, was no longer sufficient due to the growing number of MPs and modern requirements. Therefore, a new Parliament building was built and inaugurated on May 28, 2023. This building covers 64,500 square meters and has a triangular shape, which in Vastu Shastra symbolizes the 'fire element' (Agni Tattva). Renowned Vastu expert Dr. Jay Prakash Sharma Lal Dhagewale explains that the fire element represents energy, power, and positivity, making it suitable for important places like Parliament and Seva Teerth. Dr. Lal Dhagewale also served as an advisor in the construction of these buildings. According to Vastu, the triangular design ensures a smooth flow of positive energy in the building, which strengthens decision-making processes.
The new Parliament building has six main entrances: Gaj Dwar, Ashwa Dwar, Garuda Dwar, Makar Dwar, Shardul Dwar, and Hans Dwar. All of these are inspired by Vastu Shastra and reflect symbols of Indian culture. For example, Gaj Dwar is in the north direction, linked to the planet Mercury in Vastu, and considered a source of intelligence. The elephant (Gaj) symbolizes prosperity and happiness. Similarly, Ashwa Dwar in the east is connected to sunrise and represents victory. Garuda Dwar in the northeast represents knowledge and wisdom. These entrances not only enhance beauty but also maintain balance in the building according to Vastu principles. Inside the building, there are about 5,000 artworks that showcase 5,000 years of Indian civilization and are based on Vastu and Sanatan traditions. The designers drew inspiration from the Brahmeshwar Temple, which is based on tantric yantras, though some experts feel there may be a lack of deeper understanding of Vastu.
Seva Teerth is an important part of Central Vista and spreads over 15 acres near South Block. It houses the Prime Minister's Office, the National Security Council Secretariat, and the Cabinet Secretariat all in one place. The name 'Seva Teerth' was chosen because it reflects the spirit of 'Nagrik Devo Bhava' (the citizen is like God), where service is treated as sacred as a pilgrimage site. In terms of Vastu, its design is connected to nature, with emphasis on energy conservation and positive flow. The building is equipped with modern infrastructure but follows Vastu principles, such as balanced directions and inclusion of natural elements.
Besides Seva Teerth, Kartavya Bhavan 1 and 2 have also been inaugurated. These are part of the Common Central Secretariat (CCS), which plans for a total of 10 buildings. Kartavya Bhavan houses ministries like Home, External Affairs, Rural Development, and others. Well-known architect Ujjwal Upadhyay says that all these buildings are environment-friendly. They save 30 percent energy and generate 5.34 lakh units of electricity from solar power. Construction of several other buildings in Central Vista is ongoing. Renaming Rajpath to Kartavya Path is also part of this project; it is 3 km long and pedestrian-friendly.
Under the Modi government, these constructions not only strengthen infrastructure but also adopt Vastu Shastra in a modern context. Vastu connects buildings with nature. In the Modi era, the use of Vastu has increased in smart cities and gated communities, which improves stability and quality of life. For example, new buildings give importance to the northeast direction, which symbolizes knowledge. These projects emphasize environmental protection, such as efficient use of water and energy, which aligns with Vastu's principles of sustainable development.
These buildings also honor Indian history. There are plans to convert the old North and South Blocks into museums, preserving cultural heritage. Overall, this ₹20,000 crore project integrates administration and channels positive energy through Vastu. The Modi government changed land use for 8 major plots, accelerating development.
In Delhi, the new Parliament building, Seva Teerth, and other structures are achievements of the Modi era, beautifully combining modernity and Vastu Shastra. They not only improve functionality but also keep Indian culture alive. In the future, these buildings will form the foundation of a 'Viksit Bharat', where tradition and progress move forward together.
