Folk Art shines at Shinj Mela in Ramkot, courtesy JKAACL

The Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages (JKAACL), in collaboration with the Peer Baba Mela and Dangal Committee Chugaan, transformed the historic Shinj Mela in Ramkote into a vibrant showcase of Dogra and regional folk culture.
Graced by Billawar MLA Shri Satish Kumar Sharma as Chief Guest, the event featured performances from five cultural groups representing the essence of Jammu’s folk traditions.
Shatoo Ram & Party opened with soulful Geetru renditions, while Kasturi Lal & Party performed Dogri Lok Geet celebrating rural life. Sonia Sharma & Party energized the stage with Dogri folk dance, followed by Neeta Adarsh & Party’s emotive Punjabi and Sufiyana singing. Ajeet Pal & Party from Vijaypur concluded with Kaarkaan, blending satire with social themes.
The programme, anchored by Pawan Verma, was praised for reviving grassroots culture. Sanjeev Gupta of JKAACL extended a vote of thanks, emphasizing the Academy’s mission to preserve and promote local art forms.
