
As part of its continued efforts to ensure the availability of safe, hygienic and quality food items for the public, Police, in collaboration with the Food Safety Department and the concerned Magistrates, carried out extensive market checking across Shopian, Awantipora and Kulgam.
In Shopian, during the inspections, multiple violations of food safety and hygiene standards were detected. Consequently, fines were imposed on several erring establishments, including Hotel Tabish, Fish Shop Bongam Shopian, Restaurant Hungary Hills, Brand Habibi (Zainapora), Sofi Bakers (Imamsahib), and a vegetable & fruit shop in Keller. In addition, 06 FIRs under relevant sections of law were registered at Police Stations of Shopian (186/2025 &187/2025), Zainapora (67/2025 & 68/ 2025), Imamsahib (27/2025), and Keller (38/2025) against the owners for gross violations and unhygienic practices that posed a serious threat to public health.
In Awantipora, Police led by SHO PS Awantipora along Food Safety Department and Concern Magistrate carried out extensive market checking in various areas falling under the Jurisdiction of Police Station Awantipora. During the inspection, several violations of food safety and hygiene standards were found. As a result, fines were imposed on the erring restaurant owners including Amritsar Haveli Lethpora, Abdullha Restaurant Lethpora, Clock Towers Awantipora, Black Pearl Awantipora. In addition, FIR 187/2025 under relevant sections of law of PS Awantipora was registered against Red Sauce Restaurant Kachkoot owners for gross violations and unhygienic practices In Kulgam, during the inspections, multiple violations of food safety and hygiene standards were detected. Consequently, fines were imposed on several erring establishments, including hotels, restaurants, and vegetable and fruit vendors. Furthermore, FIR No. 179/2025 at PS Qazigund and FIR No 07/2025 at PS Devsar under Sections 271 and 275 IPC stands registered against certain proprietors for grossly unhygienic practices, which posed a grave risk to public health.
Police urged all traders and food business operators to strictly adhere to prescribed guidelines, cautioning that strict legal action will be taken against violators in the future as well.
