Fake documents case: CAT grants final opportunity to counsel to file response

October 21, 2024 |

Jammu, Oct 20: The Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) has granted a final opportunity to the counsel to file a response concerning allegations of the use of fake documents in the appointment of Mohammad Qasim Mir as Assistant Professor of Geography.
The Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) has granted a final opportunity to the counsel to file a response regarding allegations of the use of fake documents in his appointment as Assistant Professor of Geography.
The CAT bench, consisting of Ram Mohan Johri and Rajinder Singh Dogra, issued the last warning to Advocate Rahil Raja for failing to submit the required response.
The tribunal has now given a four-week deadline for the filing, warning of possible action if the response is not filed within the stipulated time.
The case began after Ajay Kumar, a resident of Kerimanyalla Rajouri, was dropped from the selection list for the position of Assistant Professor and subsequently filed a petition with CAT. Kumar sought information under the RTI Act regarding certificates issued in favor of Mohammad Qasim Mir, who had been appointed to the role by the J&K Higher Education Department in 2021. The RTI documents, obtained from the J&K Public Service Commission, Government Degree College Mendhar, and Tehsildar Mendhar, raised concerns over the authenticity of Mir’s qualifications. These documents were submitted to the CAT bench in 2021, prompting legal action.
In March 2024, the District Court Jammu instructed the Crime Branch to file an FIR against Mir, but the J&K High Court stayed the order. Meanwhile, the CAT has been continuing its proceedings and emphasized the urgency of resolving the matter in its latest order on October 17, 2024.
