Jorhat , May 14: Red Shield Gunners under Spear Corps, in close synergy with the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), Jorhat, conducted Exercise Jal Raksha III, a joint flood relief training exercise aimed at enhancing disaster response preparedness in flood-prone regions of Assam.
The exercise focused on improving coordination between the Army and civil disaster management agencies, with special emphasis on rapid response, rescue operations, and efficient relief distribution during flood emergencies. Participants were trained in key operational aspects including evacuation techniques, use of rescue equipment, water navigation in affected areas, and medical first response during crisis situations.
Officials stated that the joint exercise was designed to strengthen interoperability between military personnel and SDRF teams, ensuring seamless coordination during real-time flood situations. The training also aimed to refine communication channels, improve decision-making speed, and build cohesive response mechanisms for large-scale natural disasters.
Given Assam’s recurring vulnerability to seasonal floods, such preparedness initiatives are considered critical for minimizing loss of life and property. The exercise provided practical field experience to personnel, enabling them to respond more effectively to emergencies in challenging conditions.
At the conclusion of the drill, participating units reaffirmed their commitment to continued joint training and capacity building to enhance disaster response capabilities and ensure swift humanitarian assistance
