Div Com reviews Kulgam flood readiness

Kulgam, July 21 :Amid inclement weather conditions, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Anshul Garg, on Monday chaired a comprehensive review meeting in Kulgam to assess the district’s preparedness for weather-related emergencies and evaluate the readiness of the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA).

At the outset, Deputy Commissioner Kulgam, Shahzad Alam, gave a detailed presentation on the district’s preparedness, outlining department-wise mitigation plans and the operational status of relief, rescue, and rehabilitation mechanisms.
Reviewing flood protection and mitigation measures undertaken by various departments, the Divisional Commissioner directed all concerned officers to maintain high-level preparedness and ensure immediate deployment of field teams to respond effectively to any emergency.
He stressed the need for continuous monitoring of water levels, identification and mapping of flood-prone villages, strategic deployment of manpower and machinery, and ensuring full operational readiness of the disaster response system and the district control room.
The Divisional Commissioner also reviewed the status of essential public services including telecommunications, healthcare, drinking water supply, electricity, and availability of essential commodities. He instructed departments to ensure uninterrupted services during any adverse weather.
Highlighting the importance of timely communication, he directed officials to issue public advisories and intensify awareness campaigns in vulnerable areas to minimize the impact of any potential flood situation.
The meeting was attended by the Additional Deputy Commissioner, Additional Commissioner Revenue, Additional Superintendent of Police, Assistant Commissioner Development, and other district and sectoral officers.
Earlier, the Divisional Commissioner visited Mata Kulwagishori Temple at Bungam and Mata Katyani Temple at Kakran to review arrangements for the smooth conduct of the upcoming Annual Maha Yagya.
