Srinagar, Nov 3: The discontent is growing within the ruling National Conference as dissident party legislators held another closed-door meeting in Srinagar on Tuesday.
Sources said the closed door meeting was held at residence of NC MLA at Hyderpora today.
They said about 10 dissident MLAs attended the meeting and reiterated their charter of demands
The repeated meetings suggest that the disgruntled legislators are increasingly coordinating their position and seeking a decisive response from the party leadership.
At the centre of their concerns are demands for a Cabinet reshuffle, changes in ministerial portfolios, replacement of the Chief Minister's political advisors, fulfilment of all poll promises and greater consultation with elected representatives in matters concerning governance and political decision-making.
The party is grappling with discontent after the recent Cabinet expansion, which saw four legislators inducted as ministers.
The cabinet reshuffle has failed to address the expectations of several other party MLAs, some of whom believe their political experience and contribution to the party have not received adequate recognition.
The latest gathering assumes significance against the backdrop of an earlier memorandum submitted by 20 NC legislators to Abdullahs, outlining a series of grievances and seeking corrective measures within 15 days.
While there is no indication that the dissenting legislators are preparing to break away from the party, their repeated meetings point towards the fact that all is not well within the party and Abdullahs may have to reach out to them soon to defuse the tension.
