DG Assam Rifles meets specially-abled students

Shillong, April 16, 2026: Assam Rifles facilitated a heartwarming interaction between specially-abled students of Shalom Special School, Serchhip, and Lieutenant General Vikas Lakhera, AVSM, SM, Director General of Assam Rifles, at Headquarters Directorate General Assam Rifles (DGAR), Shillong.

As part of an educational tour, 18 students accompanied by five teachers visited the headquarters, where they were warmly received by Assam Rifles personnel. The visit provided the students an opportunity to interact directly with the Director General and gain insight into the functioning of the force.
During the interaction, Lt Gen Lakhera encouraged the students, praising their resilience, enthusiasm, and determination. He emphasized that physical challenges do not limit potential and urged them to pursue their goals with confidence and self-belief.
He also appreciated the dedication of the teachers for their role in nurturing and guiding the students, highlighting the importance of inclusive education in building an empowered society.
The event was marked by emotional and inspiring exchanges, leaving a lasting impact on the students and staff. Assam Rifles reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening civil-military bonds and supporting initiatives that promote welfare, inclusivity, and community engagement across the region.
