
Imphal, April 16: Lieutenant General Vikas Lakhera, AVSM, SM, Director General of Assam Rifles, concluded his visit to Manipur after a comprehensive review of operational preparedness and welfare initiatives across key locations in the state.
During the visit, the DG assessed the operational readiness of Assam Rifles formations deployed at Mantripukhri, Keithelmanbi, Pallel, Kakching, and Churachandpur. He was briefed by senior commanders on the prevailing security situation, coordination mechanisms, and ongoing efforts to maintain peace and stability in the region.
Emphasizing high alertness and professional efficiency, Lt Gen Lakhera directed all ranks to remain vigilant and responsive to emerging security challenges while continuing to maintain strong community engagement in sensitive areas.
As part of the visit, he also inaugurated eco-tourism facilities developed for Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) at Khuga, aimed at promoting sustainable livelihood opportunities and supporting rehabilitation efforts. He further reviewed the functioning of the UNAU Skill Development Centre, where vocational training programmes are being conducted to enhance employability and skill development among local youth.
The initiatives highlighted Assam Rifles’ dual focus on security and socio-economic upliftment, reinforcing its role in both operational duties and community development in the Northeast.
The visit concluded with the celebration of the 107th Raising Day of the Dalai Lama Battalion, marking its distinguished service and enduring contribution to peace and stability in the region. The event paid tribute to the battalion’s legacy of professionalism, dedication, and service in challenging operational environments.
