Srinagar, May 2: Deputy Commissioner Srinagar Akshay Labroo on Saturday appealed to citizens to actively participate in the upcoming mega Padyatra being organised under the Nasha Mukt J&K Abhiyan, led by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha.
The event is part of the Union Territory’s intensified campaign against drug abuse, aimed at mobilising public awareness, especially among youth, to build a drug-free society. The administration has described the initiative as a large-scale outreach effort combining public engagement, awareness activities, and community mobilisation.
DC Labroo stressed that the fight against substance abuse cannot be won by administration alone and requires collective responsibility from all sections of society, including families, educational institutions, civil society groups, and youth organisations.
He said the Padyatra is designed to spread a strong social message on the harmful effects of drug addiction and to encourage people to actively support prevention efforts at the grassroots level. The administration, he added, is working to ensure maximum public participation to make the campaign impactful.
Officials said necessary arrangements are being put in place for smooth conduct of the march, including route management, security coordination, and facilitation for participants. The initiative is expected to witness participation from students, youth groups, and civil society members from across Srinagar.
The Nasha Mukt J&K Abhiyan continues to focus on awareness drives, counselling, enforcement against drug peddling, and promotion of healthy recreational activities as part of a broader strategy to curb the drug menace in the region.
