February 18, 2026 | BK News Service

Srinagar, Feb 17: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah today chaired a high-level meeting to review preparations for the holy month of Ramadan across Jammu and Kashmir, emphasizing smooth public services, safety, and welfare of citizens.

The Chief Minister directed all departments to intensify sanitation drives, particularly around mosques, shrines, and major congregation points, ensuring regular garbage collection and cleanliness throughout Ramadan. He stressed uninterrupted power and water supply, particularly during Sehri and Iftar hours, and instructed deployment of water tankers in water-stressed areas ahead of peak times.
Authorities were asked to ensure availability of essential commodities, including rice, flour, sugar, LPG, poultry, vegetables, and fish, while strict market checks were ordered to curb hoarding, profiteering, and black marketing.
For public safety, the Chief Minister reviewed enhanced security arrangements, including round-the-clock patrolling, anti-sabotage checks, crowd management during Friday prayers, and deployment of fire tenders at key locations. Traffic management around major religious sites was also emphasized.
Healthcare preparedness was a priority, with instructions to deploy doctors, paramedics, and emergency medical services at congregation points. The Chief Minister called for prompt grievance redressal and proper monitoring of donations to ensure aid reaches underprivileged families, widows, and orphans.
Transport arrangements, especially for RTC services and e-buses, were also reviewed, with the Chief Minister directing adequate availability during Iftar hours to meet public commuting needs.
The meeting, attended by senior officials, divisional commissioners, IGs of Police, and department heads, underscored coordinated efforts across all departments to ensure a safe, orderly, and convenient Ramadan for the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
