
Jammu, Feb 10: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah today reaffirmed his Government’s commitment to fulfilling all promises to the people of Jammu and Kashmir, stating that the Budget 2026–27 lays a strong foundation for sustained economic growth, social welfare, and inclusive development.
Replying to the Assembly debate on the Budget, the Chief Minister said the Government is focused on creating employment, strengthening infrastructure, improving public services, and ensuring development reaches every section of society in a transparent manner.
Regularisation of Daily Wage Workers:
Omar Abdullah announced that regularisation of daily wagers will begin this year, underscoring continued support for this segment.
Pro-People Measures and Welfare Initiatives:
The Chief Minister highlighted several initiatives funded directly through the J&K Budget, including free LPG cylinders, monthly assistance of Rs 4,000 for orphans and vulnerable families, scholarships for tribal and poor students, and free bus ridership for women and persons with disabilities.
Rural Economy and Agriculture:
Emphasising rural development, the Budget focuses on agriculture, horticulture, animal husbandry, fisheries, and dairy. A new dairy scheme aims to increase milk production by one lakh litres, while weather-based crop insurance and improved livestock management will boost productivity.
Youth Empowerment and Employment:
Through Mission YUVA, the Government seeks to promote entrepreneurship, self-employment, and skill development, enabling youth to actively participate in J&K’s economic growth.
Balanced Development and Local Employment:
The Chief Minister reaffirmed equitable development across all regions, citing the restoration of the Darbar Move as a commitment to Jammu’s aspirations. Industries benefiting from government incentives are urged to prioritise recruitment of local youth.
Economic Strength and Fiscal Measures:
Omar Abdullah clarified expenditure figures, highlighted the SASCI scheme’s interest-free support for 50 years, and reiterated that the Budget ensures long-term fiscal stability while addressing the needs of the poorest and most vulnerable.
