
Ganderbal, Feb 24: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Monday inaugurated and laid foundation stones for major development projects worth ₹84.41 crore in Ganderbal constituency, aimed at strengthening infrastructure, healthcare, sanitation, water supply, education and road connectivity across the district.
At Beehama, he laid the foundation stone for the ₹770 lakh Beautification and Development Project of Ganderbal Town under the Housing & Urban Development Department. The project includes construction of a grand entry gate, a municipal guest house, conversion of the MC Terminal building into a Smart Library, development of play areas and club facilities, cobble stone and tiling works for streets, installation of street lights and garbage bins, and façade improvements to enhance the town’s aesthetic appeal.
He also laid the foundation stone for a ₹750.78 lakh road project connecting Bus Adda to District Hospital, including widening of Mirani Chowk to ease traffic congestion.
At District Hospital Ganderbal, the Chief Minister inaugurated a CT Scan Machine installed at a cost of ₹840 lakh, significantly boosting diagnostic services in the district.
At Rakhi Harran, he laid the foundation stone for a 4.5 MLD Sewage Treatment Plant under the Used Water Management Project (SBM 2.0) costing ₹1,999.20 lakh, aimed at improving sanitation and environmental sustainability.
From Dak Bungalow Ganderbal, he e-inaugurated multiple Water Supply Schemes under the Jal Jeevan Mission, including WSS Urpash Naderbagh (₹679.14 lakh), WSS Buderkund (₹399 lakh) and WSS Manasbal (₹130 lakh).
The Chief Minister also e-laid foundation stones for various road works costing ₹1,288.40 lakh under PWD, school infrastructure upgrades worth ₹902.69 lakh, upgradation of inner link roads at Treesa Safapora and Check Yangaroo in Lar (₹302.11 lakh), and improvement of Kohistan Colony Canal Roads (₹379.62 lakh).
Reiterating his government’s commitment to inclusive development, Omar Abdullah said the focus remains on timely execution and quality outcomes that translate into tangible improvements in people’s daily lives.
On the occasion, he distributed Mission Yuva disbursal letters worth ₹55 lakh among beneficiaries and later held a public interaction at Dak Bungalow Ganderbal, where delegations raised issues related to drinking water, irrigation, sports infrastructure, fire services and school upgradation.
Senior officials and ministers accompanied the Chief Minister during the tour, with Minister for Jal Shakti Javed Ahmed Rana joining the foundation laying ceremony virtually.
