Chief Imam Dr Ilyasi appeals for peace, harmony

October 10, 2026 | BK NEWS SERVICE

New Delhi, Oct 9: Chief Imam of India, Dr Umer Ahmed Ilyasi, has appealed to members of the Muslim community to refrain from participating in any protest, demonstration or gathering that could trigger tension, disturb public order or undermine peace and communal harmony in the country.

In his message, Dr Ilyasi emphasised the importance of maintaining restraint, exercising responsibility and ensuring that differences of opinion do not lead to situations that threaten public safety and social harmony.
He urged members of the community to remain vigilant against attempts to provoke unrest and not to be swayed by rumours, inflammatory messages or misleading information circulating on social media. He stressed that sensitive issues should be approached with patience, wisdom and a commitment to peaceful dialogue.
Highlighting the importance of peace and harmony for the country's unity, stability and progress, the Chief Imam called upon citizens of all faiths to uphold the rule of law, respect public property and strengthen mutual trust and understanding.
Dr Ilyasi also underscored the responsibility of religious leaders, community elders and other influential members of society to promote calm, guide the younger generation and discourage actions that could escalate tensions.
He observed that, in an era when unverified information and provocative content can quickly influence public sentiment, citizens must exercise caution, verify facts and rely on credible sources before sharing information or reacting to sensitive developments.
Appealing to Muslims to uphold the values of peace, compassion, patience and brotherhood, Dr Ilyasi encouraged all communities to work collectively towards national unity and social cohesion.
He reiterated that peaceful dialogue, mutual respect and adherence to the law remain the most constructive ways to resolve differences, protect communal harmony and strengthen the bonds that unite the nation.
The Chief Imam's message calls for responsible citizenship and collective efforts to preserve peace and ensure that no action or misunderstanding undermines the country's atmosphere of harmony and brotherhood.
