Srinagar, Aug 29: Residents of Chanapora on Saturday staged a protest against frequent and prolonged power outages, accusing authorities of failing to ensure a reliable electricity supply in the area.

The protesting residents said unscheduled power cuts have disrupted normal life, affecting households, businesses, students and other sections of the community. They alleged that despite repeated complaints to the concerned authorities, the problem has persisted.
Residents said the situation becomes particularly difficult during peak hours, when electricity is essential for domestic work, education and other routine activities. They also expressed concern over voltage fluctuations and interruptions, which they said have added to their difficulties.
“People are facing repeated power cuts despite paying their electricity bills regularly. We want the concerned department to address the issue permanently rather than relying on temporary measures,” residents said.
The protesters demanded immediate restoration of a stable power supply and urged the authorities to examine the local distribution network, including transformers, feeders and damaged infrastructure, wherever required.
They also called for advance communication regarding scheduled maintenance and power shutdowns so that residents can make necessary arrangements and avoid inconvenience.
Residents maintained that uninterrupted electricity is particularly important for students preparing for examinations and for small businesses dependent on power for their daily operations.
The protest also highlighted broader concerns over the condition and capacity of the electricity distribution infrastructure in Srinagar. Residents said ageing equipment, overloading and frequent faults need to be addressed through timely maintenance and infrastructure upgrades.
They appealed to the Kashmir Power Distribution Corporation Limited (KPDCL) and other concerned agencies to conduct a detailed assessment of the area and take corrective measures at the earliest.
The protesters said they would continue to raise the issue through peaceful means if the power situation does not improve.
The residents urged the administration to treat the matter as a basic civic requirement and ensure that Chanapora receives a dependable electricity supply without frequent and prolonged interruptions.
