BUDGAM, July 21: District Administration Budgam and Police have reported significant achievements under the 100-Day Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan, intensifying action against drug trafficking while strengthening prevention, enforcement, awareness and rehabilitation measures across the district.

During the campaign, launched by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on April 11, authorities arrested 87 drug peddlers, while nine notorious offenders were detained under the PIT-NDPS Act.
Police also registered 89 cases under the NDPS Act, attached six movable and immovable properties worth Rs 1.50 crore belonging to drug peddlers, and demolished six illegally constructed properties linked to the drug trade.
Deputy Commissioner Athar Aamir Khan said the administration would continue its relentless campaign against the drug mafia and urged parents, educational institutions, community leaders and the public to actively support efforts to make Budgam a drug-free district.
He said the campaign witnessed massive public participation, with awareness programmes conducted daily across the district. These included seminars, debates, essay and painting competitions, door-to-door outreach, plantation drives, cleanliness campaigns and sports events. A Pad Yatra organised on May 5 further strengthened the anti-drug movement by promoting collective responsibility.
As part of administrative action, 136 Aadhaar numbers were recommended for flagging, two passports for cancellation, while one arms licence and one driving licence were suspended. Additionally, 20 vehicle registrations were suspended or blacklisted.
To curb the illegal sale of narcotics through medical outlets, authorities suspended 47 pharmacy licences, sealed 30 unlicensed medical shops, cancelled three drug licences, and registered four FIRs under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act.
In its drive against illegal cultivation of narcotic crops, the administration registered six FIRs and destroyed poppy and cannabis cultivation spread over more than 56 kanals of land.
On the rehabilitation front, 48 patients are undergoing treatment at the Drug De-addiction Centre, while 12 recovered individuals have been rehabilitated under self-employment schemes. The Addiction Treatment Facility registered 93 patients and conducted 3,450 psychological and clinical follow-up sessions during the campaign.
To strengthen surveillance, nearly 100 CCTV cameras have been installed at identified drug hotspots. Awareness campaigns were also carried out through eight Nasha Mukt Panchayats, five Urban Local Bodies, 296 Youth Clubs and 285 Mahila Samitis, ensuring broad community participation.
The Deputy Commissioner reiterated that the administration, in coordination with the police and other stakeholders, will continue its sustained drive against drug trafficking while simultaneously focusing on awareness, prevention, treatment and rehabilitation to build a drug-free Budgam.
